Stretch marks suck, period. You are doing something good with your life (losing weight, having a baby… gaining weight I purposely exclude) and you get punished with weird ugly stains on your skin. Why? WHY?!
Some women are genetically predisposed to them too. That means (yay for them) that whatever you do to try and prevent them, it won’t help. You’re getting them no matter what. It’s an understandably hard pill to swallow.
Other lucky women have their marks come on gradually, and have shown that under the right treatments, they can also be removed. Lucky bitches!
So there are two things to discuss here with regard to stretch marks, prevention before you get them, and cure once you have them. Prevention first.
When it comes to prevention you’re playing a hit and miss game. There are myriad of things that have been advised at one point or another as actions to take to prevent the onset of stretch marks. Things like baby oil, emu oil, random and various food substances massaged into the skin, and so on. Some of these things, if used vigorously and consistently, CAN keep the skin in a supple state, resistant to the kind of tears that cause stretch marks. But again, depending on the kind of skin you have, you could find it difficult or ineffective to use the same treatment your friend used successfully.
If you’re in that group, you can but wait for stretch marks to set in. Then it’s time to consider the “cure” options.
Of course once your stretch marks are set in, it’s more difficult to get them away than it would have been to prevent them coming, if that was an option for you. But it’s not impossible. Many women have experienced real results using treatments like Trilastin (See a good Trilastin review), or Mederma, and many others that are safe and affordable.
These too, are hit and miss however. Two women can use the same product and report completely different results, so don’t get your hopes up on these treatments either. Whether it’s Trilastin or another, you’re going to be looking at a long path, and that should be taken completely into consideration at the outset of your journey.
