Constipated?…A Few Herbs To Consider For A Constipated Bowel

General Add comments

Waste matter buildup in the colon caused by constipation can lead to infection and serious disease resulting from accumulated toxins, poor digestion, weight gain and low energy.

Aloe Vera Leaf, Slippery Elm Bark and Barberry Root are premium quality plant extracts that are well known for their cleansing and soothing properties in the intestinal tract. Aloe vera is highly valued for its potent natural laxative properties. In fact, because the latex is such a potent laxative, it is not usually used alone but combined with gentler herbs.

Aloe and its cousins buckthorn, frangula and senna have natural laxative chemicals and can be very powerful constipation cures.

Senna, buckthorn, and frangula are the cousins of Aloe. They all possess natural laxative chemicals and can be very powerful constipation cures. Senna has even been used as a mouthwash to offer effective relief from bad breath as well.

Bulk-forming laxatives come from plants with a high fiber and mucilage content that expand when they come in contact with water; examples include psyllium, flaxseed, and fenugreek. As the volume in the bowel increases, a reflex muscular contraction occurs, stimulating a bowel movement.

Bulk laxatives are the gentlest for occasional constipation. Flaxseed (also known as linseed), psyllium, and fenugreek are three well-known herbal bulk laxatives.

Another constipation remedy you can use, although not "herbal" is drinking a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit first thing in the morning. Drink a large glass of warm water an hour before meals and avoid drinking too much with meals as this can interfere with the digestive juices. Other good fluids to take in include herbal teas and vegetable juices.
